Excavation Competent Person
Working in trenches and excavations is one of the most dangerous types of work our field crews experience. Cave-ins are one of the leading causes of injury and death among construction type workers. This is the reason Cal/OSHA regulations require excavation work to be overseen by a competent person.

This course covers the following Cal/OSHA Requirements for a Competent Person:

  • General Hazards Associated with Trenching and Excavation work
  • Requirements for Locating and Working Near underground Utilities
  • Identifying and Addressing Potential Atmospheric Hazards Associated with Excavation Work
  • Soil Testing and Classification
  • Dangers Associated with Water Accumulation
  • Access and Egress from Trenches & Excavations
  • Exposure to Vehicular Traffic
  • Requirements for Protection Systems such as: Sloping & Benching; Shoring; Trench Boxes
  • Competent Person Inspection Requirements

Students receive a Certificate of Completion at the end of the class.

Underground Utility Locator
This course is designed for participants already involved in the underground locating business (3 years experience), this session reviews key concepts of applied electromagnetic theory and provides an overview of the CGA Best Practices for locating and marking.

This is the class most popular with organizations that have some experience and are looking for that last piece of the process to help their employees become “Qualified Underground Utility Locators” in accordance with Cal/OSHA requirements in Title 8 CCR Section 1541.

Students receive a Certificate of Completion at the end of the class.

Fall Protection Training
Fall Protection competent person training provides the information employees need to work safely when working at height, and satisfies the training requirements in the Cal/OSHA Standards on Fall Protection. If your employees work at height, they need to work safely and understand fall protection.

After this full-day training attendees will understand the different levels of competence required of an Authorized Person, a Competent Person and a Qualified Person; the Cal/OSHA rules and regulations for working at height; and the fall protection options currently available.
